ON TAP TODAY: SAYRE, ATHENS OPEN PLAY IN DISTRICT 4 VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS (2025-10-26)

THE VALLEY — Sayre and Athens begin play in their respective District 4 volleyball playoffs tonight, with the Redskins in action at Athens, and the Wildcats playing in Danville.

District 4 Playoffs
Class A Semifinals
2-Sayre (9-9) vs. Sugar Valley Rural Charter (2-16), 5 p.m. @ Athens Area H.S.: The Redskins are coming off a 3-0 loss to Wyalusing Thursday, while the Phoenix closed out the regular season with a four-set loss to Midd-West on Oct. 18.

Sayre lost three in a row and five of its last seven games to finish the season, while while the Pheonix lost its last five matches and 13 of its last 14.

The Redskins split a pair of five-set matches with top-seeded Canton, while all three of the Phoenix's wins came against schools with losing record.

The winner will advance to the Class A finals against top-seeded Canton Thursday at Athens.

Class 3A Semifinals
2-Athens (7-11) vs. 3-Shamokin (5-8), 7 p.m. 2 Danville H.S.: The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a four-set loss to Williamson Wednesday, while the Indians dropped a four-set decision to Montoursville on Oct. 14.

Athens won four in a row prior to its loss in the season finals, while Shamokin started the season at 2-6 before winning three of its last five matches.

The winner will advance to the Class A finals Wednesday at Williamsport.
