Valley Sports ReportJERSEY SHORE — Bo Sechrist ran for six TDs to key Jersey Shore's offensive onslaught in a 73-14 win over Athens here Friday night in the semifinals of the District 4, Class 4A football playoffs.
"Sometimes you're the windshield, and sometimes you're the bug," said Athens coach Shawn Bradley after the loss.
"Our kids fought the whole game, and played hard the whole game.
"I'm proud of the them, they came a long way this year," added Bradley.
The Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of interceptions, and two turnovers on downs in the first half, as well as three Athens punts to build a 50-0 halftime lead.
Sechrist scored on runs of 6 and 74 yards in the first quarter, sandwiched around a 7-yard TD run by his brother, QB Zeke Sechrist, to give Jersey Shore a 21-0 lead after the opening stanza.
After a safety early in the second quarter upped the Bulldog advantage to 23-0, Bo Sechrist ran for TDs of 20 and 33 yards to make it 36-0.
After Zeke Sechrist threw a TD pass, Bo Sechrist scored on a 10-yard run in the final minute of the half to extend the lead to 50-0.
Bo Sechrist, who rushed for 276 yards on 18 carries, finished off his night in the opening minutes of the second half with a 64-yard TD run to make it 57-0.
Athens got on the board in the third quarter on a 6-yard TD pass from freshman Shea Davidson to senior James Friend. Junior Zach Fisher's PAT kick made it 57-7.
Athens added another score in the first quarter on a 90-yard TD pass from Davidson to junior Gage Marmor. Fisher added the final point for the Wildcats.
Davidson completed 14 of 29 passes for 199 yards and two TDs, while being picked off three times.
"We love the kids we have, and played with the kids we have," said Bradley.
"Shea played great today," he added. "He was a freshman out there playing against one of the best teams in the state."
Marmor led Athens with six receptions for 125 yards and one TD, and Friend had four grabs for 64 yards and one TD.
Junior Brendan Cooke led Athens' ground game, which had 21 yards on 23 carries, with 31 yards on 10 attempts.
The Wildcats close out the season with a 9-2 record, and will graduate nine seniors.
"This is a group of seniors, they took us a long way, " said Bradley. "They've grown a lot in three years.
I'm sad to see them go, they are good kids," he added.
