SECTION IV GIRLS SWIMMING: KITTLE, WELLES LEAD WAVERLY'S EFFORTS AT CLASS B PRELIMS (24 PHOTOS) (2025-11-05)
Valley Sports ReportENDWELL — Senior Mira Kittle had four first-place finishes, and sophomore Lauryn Welles was a triple-winner to lead Waverly's efforts at the Section IV, Class B girls swimming preliminaries.
The top 16 finishers in each individual event, and the top eight finishers in all three relays advanced to Saturday's Class B Championships.
The Wolverines advanced all three relays, and 12 girls representing 21 entries in eight events. They advanced four swimmers in three different events, including the 50-yard freestyle with a 1-2-3-4 finish.
Kittle swam the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle to earn the top seed Saturday, clocking in at 24.11 seconds, while Welles was second in 25.3 seconds, Atanasoff was third at 25.54, and Cheresnowsky was fourth at 26.0 seconds.
Kittle also swam the fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 58.85 seconds, while Cheresnowsky was second at 1:02.6, freshman Brynna Twedt was fifth at 1:09.83, and freshman Ayla Wheeler was eighth at 1:12.3.
Welles swam the fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.97 seconds, while freshman Audrey Kellogg was second at 57.08 seconds, Twedt was fifth at 59.34 seconds, and Wheeler was ninth at 1:02.21.
Kittle, Cheresnowsky, Atanasoff, and freshman Natalie Steck earned the top seed in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.48.
Kittle, Welles, Atanasoff, and Kellogg swam the fastest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:53.05.
Welles, Kellogg, Twedt and Wheeler earned the top seed in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:44.37.
Steck was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:13.33.
Senior Liz Robinson placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:05.09, and Atanasoff was fourth at 1:06.05.
Steck placed sixth in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:33.07, and 7th-grader Harper Varano was 12th in 3:31.36.
Robinson was sixth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:11.31, and Kellogg was ninth in 2:14.65.
Senior Sophie Williams finished 15th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 7:15.87, and sophomore Isabella Miner was 16th in 7:33.94.
The Class B Championships are set for 4 p.m. at Maine-Endwell High School.
