BALDWINSVILLE — Waverly used a 28-0 second-quarter blitz to take a 40-point lead into the halftime locker room on its way to a 78-17 win over Massena here Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Bill Middleton JV Girls Basketball Tip-Off Tournament.

Raygane Oakes knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the first quarter, and Kezlyn DeKay and Isabella McEwen added four points apiece in a 20-8 run in the opening eight minutes.

DeKay pumped in 11 points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter, and Oakes and Addison Foster each scored four points in the 28-0 onslaught that pushed the junior Wolverines' lead to 48-8 at the halftime break.

Taylin Gonzalez scored five points, including a 3-pointer, while Sophia Dorsey added four points, and Oakes added a 3-pointer in a 21-2 blitz that upped the Waverly lead to 69-15 heading into the final eight minutes.

DeKay led Waverly with 19 points, six rebounds, six steals, and three blocked shots, while Oakes had 14 points, including two 3-pointers, and three assists, and Gonzalez had 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, four rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one blocked shot.

McEwen had nine points and eight boards in the win, while Dorsey had eight points and 10 rebounds, and Foster had seven points, five rebounds, and five steals.

Meeya Wheeler added six points, three steals and one blocked shot for the Wolverines, and Paige Bubniak chipped in with four points and six rebounds.

Waverly will square off with Baldwinsville in the championship game Saturday afternoon.
