ON TAP TODAY: ATHENS WRESTLING OPENS 2025-26 SEASON AT HOME (December 4, 2025)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The winter season starts to pick up steam with three events, including the first wrestling dual of the season at Athens, and a home bowling match for Tioga at the Valley Bowling Center.
WRESTLING
Wellsboro at Athens, 6 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off an 8-3 dual season in 2024-25, including a 7-1 mark in the NTL, while the Hornets were 6-18 overall and 1-7 in the league.
Athens has 22 on its roster, including five seniors and eight juniors. The Wildcats' top returners are District 4 champ sophomore Treyton Barrett (24-11), juniors Zaine Campbell (29-6), Connor Davidson (26-12), Brendan Cooke (25-15), Lucas Persun (22-13), and senior Karson sipley (22-13.
Wellsboro's top returner, senior Hayden Stevens, was 22-11 last season. The Hornets have 19 wrestlers on their roster, including nine freshmen and four sophomores.
Last year, Athens won 58-12 at Wellsboro.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Tioga at Owego, 7:45 p.m. (Varsity only): The Tigers will play their first varsity game — after field just a JV team in 2024-25 — since an 0-19 season in 2023-24. The River Hawks were 9-13 last season, which ended with a loss to Johnson City in the Class A semifinals.
