ATHENS — Athens won all seven contested weight classes, including six by first-period falls, in a season-opening, 63-0, whitewashing of Wellsboro here Thursday night in NTL wrestling action.

The Wildcats also received four forfeits in the win, and there were no matches at 114 or 121 pounds.

Freshman Uriah Souter scored his first varsity win, and registered the fastest fall of the win with a 35-second pin at 127 pounds, while junior Lucas Persun scored a fall in 38 seconds at 145 pounds.

Junior Connor Davidson needed just 60 seconds at 189 pounds, while senior Karson Sipley decked his Hornet counterpart in 61 seconds and 172 pounds, and junior Wyatt Clink recorded his fall in 67 seconds at 139 pounds.

Freshman Chase VanDyke scored his first varsity win with a pin in 1:31 at 107 pounds.

The only bout to go six minutes saw Athens junior Brendan Cooke score a pair of third-period takedowns in a 9-4 decision over Hayden Stevens in their 215-pound bout.

Seniors Ryan Howard (160 pounds) and Brenden Comstock (285), junior Zaine Campbell (133), and sophomore Treyton Barrett (152) received forfeits for the Wildcats.

Athens returns to action Saturday when it hosts the annual Jarvis Memorial Tournament.
