H.S. GIRLS BASKETBALL: TIOGA DROPS SEASON-OPENER TO OWEGO IN FIRST NIGHT OF SIBLEY TOURNAMENT (December 4, 2025)

OWEGO — Tioga got off to a good start, but Owego took control in the second quarter and pulled away for a 49-21 season-opening win in the opening round of the Charlie Sibley Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament here Thursday night.

Lydiah Decker and Kaylah Nelson each knocked down 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Tigers to a 9-5 lead after the first eight minutes, but the rest of the game was all River Hawks.

Marielle Searles canned a 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, and Katelyn Dodge added a 3-pointer to fuel a 10-3 run that put Owego ahead 15-13 at the halftime break.

Eva Crawford scored eight points in the third quarter, and Jenna McEvoy added six points, including a 3-pointer,  to power an 18-4 blitz that extended the River Hawk advantage to 33-16 heading into the final eight minutes.

McEvoy drained a pair of 3-pointers and pumped in 12 points in the fourth quarter as Owego sealed the win with a 16-5 run.

Decker led Tioga with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Nelson added six points, and Payton Black chipped in with five points.

McEvoy led Owego with 24 points, three rebounds, and four steals, while Searles had 10 points, eight boards, and one blocked shot, and Crawford added eight points, six assists, four rebounds,a dn two blocked shots.

Tioga will square off with Candor Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game.
