NTL JV BOYS BASKETBALL: ATHENS WINS THREE OUT OF ITS LAST FOUR GAMES (December 20, 2025)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens won three of its last four games, including NTL wins over Cowanesque Valley and North Penn-Liberty this week in junior varsity boys basketball action.
Athens, now 4-1, returns to action Saturday afternoon at Waverly.
Athens 40, Cowanesque Valley 29Athens used balanced scoring and a good defensive effort to forge a 40-29 win Wednesday night.
Aidan Vanderpool, who knocked down a 3-pointer, and Kade Rowe scored four points apiece in the first quarter as Athens outscored CV, 10-8.
Rowe scored four more points in the second quarter as the Wildcats used a 10-9 advantage to take a 20-17 lead into the halftime locker room.
Rowe tallied four more points in the third quarter and Athens stretched its lead to six points, at 30-24, entering the fourth quarter.
Alex McQuay scored four points in the final eight minutes to spark a 10-5 spurt that sealed the win for the Wildcats.
Rowe led Athens with 14 points, while Vanderpool scored nine, McQuay added eight points, and Dom Robbins chipped in with five.
Athens 46, NP-Liberty 25On Tuesday, nine different Wildcats put their names in the scoring column in a 46-25 win over North Penn-Liberty.
NP-L led 10-6 after the first quarter, but different Athens players scored in a 19-6 second-quarter blitz that gave Athens a 25-16 halftime lead.
Chris Moore connected on a 3-pointer in the stanza, and Dom Robbins and Aiden Vanderpool each had old-fashioned three-point plays.
Athens outscored NP-L, 6-3, in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 31-19 heading into the final stanza.
Isiah Bailey scored nine points in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats put the game away with a 15-6 run.
Bailey led Athens wi11 points, while Kade Rowe scored nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers, Robbins and Alex McQuay each added five points and Eli Wayman chipped in with four points.
Johnson City Tip-Off Tournament
Norwich 58, Athens 44Athens led by six after the first quarter, but Norwich rallied for a 48-44 win in the opening round of the JC Tip-Off Tournament.
Aiden Briggs led Athens with 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Dom Robbins scored 12, and Isiah Bailey and Hunter Brennan each added four points.
Consolation GameAthens 64, Newfield 31Athens jumped out to a quick double-digit advantage, and led by 23 at the half on its way to a 64-31 win over Newfield in the consolation game of the JC Tip-Off Tournament.
Rowe led Athens with 21 points, while Briggs scored 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, Avery Gorsline and Eli Wayman added six points apiece, and Brayden Westbrook and Isiah Bailey chipped in with four points apiece.
