IAC GIRLS WRESTLING: MARCY, EMILY MONIZ BOTH WIN TITLES; TIOGA FINISHES THIRD AT 'BASH AT THE BURGH' (December 21, 2025)
Valley Sports ReportLANSINGBURGH — Junior Marcy Moniz and freshman Emily Moniz won individual weight class titles, and Tioga had three other wrestlers reach the podium in a third-place finish in the 18-team field here Sunday at the "Bash at the Burgh" girls wrestling tournament.
Junior Amelia Toomey was a runner-up for the Tigers, while freshman Taylor Sindoni was a third-place finisher, and freshman Grace Howey was fourth in her weight class.
Class AA Shenendehowa won the team title with 140.5 points, while Port Jervis was runner-up with 98.5 points, Tioga tallied 91.5 points, Walton-Delhi was fourth with 74 points, and Sidney was fifth with 62 points.
Marcy Moniz was 4-0 in pool-play matches to win the 152-pound title. She won three matches by fall, and received a forfeit.
Marcy Moniz opened with a 53-second pin of Queensbury's Rylee Guyette, then pinned Shaker's Danielle Galvez in 3:30.
After picking up a forfeit from Lansingburgh's Kyah Davis, Marcy Moniz finished off her 152-pound title run with a pin of Mohonasen-Schalamont's Makaya Priest in 1:26.
Emily Moniz was 2-1 to win the 235-pound pool.
Emily Moniz built an 8-2 lead over Mohonasen-Schalamont's Taelynn Diaz in the first period, but Diaz rallied to tie the bout at 8-8 before finishing it with a fall at 3:31.
Emily Moniz bounced back to win her next two matches, while Diaz lost to the same two opponents.
Emily Moniz pinned Shenandehowa's Jasmine Nolan in 4:47, then edged Port Jervis' Hailey Montroy in a 2-0 decision.
Toomey was 3-1 on the day to place second in the 145-pound bracket.
Toomey opened with a 37-second fall of Mount Abraham's Hailey Isham in the quarterfinals, then pinned Mohonasen-Schalamont's Elexis Lacy in 3:59 in a championship round match.
In the semifinals, Toomey beat Isham again with a 10-0 technical fall in 38 seconds.
In the finals, Toomey trailed, 10-6, when she lost by fall in 4:58 to Shenandehowa's Kaitlyn Young.
Sindoni was 4-1 to finish third in the 114-pound bracket, which was won by nationally-ranked Charlie Wylie of Port Jervis.
Sindoni scored a 10-0 technical fall of Albany's Emma Carlson in 1:37 in the opening round, then pinned Walton-Delhi's Gwynavere Northrup in 2:17 in the quarterfinals.
In the semis, Sindoni lost via technical fall to Shenandehowa's Amanda Skiba.
She bounced backwash a pin of Queensbury's Lillie-Mae Sheldrick in 3:25 in the consolation semifinals, and a 12-0 technical fall of Warrensburg-Lake George's Savannah Lehman in 2:21.
Howey was 2-2 on the day to place fourth in the 120-pound bracket.
Howey opened with a pin of Lansingburgh's KyLynne Aftab in 2:43 in the quarterfinals, then lost via technical fall to top-seeded Isabella Phelps of Sidney in the semifinals.
Howey pinned Queensbury's Alyssa Only in 62 seconds in the consolation semifinal.
In the semifinals, Howey built a quick 6-0 lead, but Shenandehowa's Amber Rumsey rallied to tie the match at 8-8 before scoring a fall at 2:35.
Senior Mia Hall was 2-2 in the 114-pound bracket, scoring a 4-0 decision over Sidney's Isabella Quinones, and a pin of South Glens Falls' Macyn Hamilton in 1:46.
Junior Sadie Marshall was 1-2 in the 114-pound bracket, scoring a pin of Lansingburgh's Alexis Foy in 65 seconds for her lone win.
Senior Sophia Haney was 1-2 in the 132-pound bracket, scoring her only win in the quarterfinals with a pin of Walton-Delhi's Addie Richer in 38 seconds.
Tioga returns to action Dec. 29 at the Coxsackie-Athens Girls Scramble.
