STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY FALLS IN FINAL MINUTE AT WINDSOR, 48-46 (December 22, 2025)
Valley Sports ReportWINDSOR — Waverly scored the first 15 points of the game, but a late 3-pointer completed Windsor's comeback in a 48-46 win here Monday night in a 48-46 win in STAC boys basketball action.
"It was a great high school basketball game," said Judson.
"We came out and played very, very well offensively. We shot the ball well.
We connected well defensively," noted Judson. "It was probably the best one of my teams has played in the last couple years defensively. As poorly as I thought we played against Athens, we played that well tonight defensively."
Senior Hogan Shaw drained a trio of 3-pointers and scored 11 points as Waverly raced out to a 15-0 lead.
From that point on, the remainder of the first half was all Windsor as it outscored Waverly, 25-8, over the final 11 minutes to take a 25-23 lead at the halftime intermission.
"Windsor changed up defensively," said Judson. "We still got some good looks, we just didn't capitalize on them."
Judson said foul trouble and foul shooting were big keys in the Waverly loss.
"We couldn't sustain what we were trying to do because we got in foul trouble," said Judson. "We had real foul trouble, four of my starters had two fouls midway though the second quarter, and a couple of guys picked up their third and fourth fouls in the third quarter, so we certainly personnel on the floor that aren't normally in those roles for us.
"In a close game, there are certain things we would have liked to have done differently, but at the end of the day when you shoot 7 of 17 from the foul line, you're going to lose close games," he added.
Hogan Shaw knocked down another 3-pointer and scored seven points in the third quarter, but Windsor used a 15-10 scoring advantage to stretch its lead t0 40-33 entering the final eight minutes.
Junior Bryce LaForest canned a pair of 3-pointers as Waverly rallied to tie the game at 45-45 in the final minutes.
With 25 seconds remaining, freshman Braiden Judson drove to bucket and was fouled. He hit the first one and missed the second, but Waverly rebounded, then missed the putback attempt.
Windsor rushed the ball up court and Jack Wharton drained a 25-footer with 8.1 seconds remaining.
Waverly inbounded the ball, but not get a good luck on a shot as time expired.
Hogan Shaw led Waverly with 21 points, five rebounds and three assists, while senior Porter Daddona had seven points and seven boards, and LaForest had six points, three rebounds, and four steals.
Sophomore Jack Pipher added five points, five rebounds, and one blocked shot for the Wolverines, while junior Ben Shaw chipped in with four points and five rebounds, and Judson hauled down six rebounds.
Wharton led Windsor with 15 points and Brayden Moran scored 12 points.
Waverly returns to action Sunday against Notre Dame at Elmira High School as part of the Josh Palmer Tournament. Game time is 11:45 a.m.
