STAC WRESTLING: LATHROP LEADS SIX WAVERLY WRESTLERS IN CONSOLATION BRACKET AT ROTARY TOURNAMENT (January 2, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportONEONTA — Waverly freshman Brooks Lathrop leads six Waverly wrestlers into action Saturday in the consolation bracket here at the 36th annual Oneonta Rotary Russ Cordell Tournament.
Lathrop was 2-1 in the 190-pound bracket.
Lathrop started his day with a pin, beating the first-period fall of Elmira's Colin Baer in 1:59.
After a loss via fall in the quarterfinals, Lathrop pinned his teammate, sophomore Liam Arnold, in 50 seconds.
Sophomore Jaxon Porter and senior Ely Newman were both 0-1 in the 285-pound bracket, and freshman Jax Myers was 0-1 at 165 pounds, 7th-grader Mason Phillips was 0-1 at 110 pounds, senior Nico Rae was 0-1 at 144 pounds. All five are still alive in wrestlebacks.
The only other Wolverines to win a match Friday was 7th-grader Triton Floyd, who was 1-2 in the 103-pound bracket. He won his opening-round match by fall over Susquehanna Valley's Alex Fraley in 1:22.
Senior Hudson Sink went 0-2 in the 132-pound bracket, while sophomore Joey Sandfort was 0-2 at 118 pounds, and Arnold was 0-2 at 190 pounds.
Waverly's top eight wrestlers will be in action Sunday at the Armbar at the Armory in Halfmoon, N.Y.
Day 2 action at the Oneonta Tournament begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
