STAC WRESTLING: RAE, NEWMAN LEAD FOUR WAVERLY WRESTLERS TO PODIUM AT ONEONTA ROTARY TOURNAMENT (January 3, 2026)

ONEONTA — Waverly seniors Niko Rae and Ely Newman led four Waverly wrestlers to the podium here Saturday at the 36th annual Rotary / Ross Cordell Tournament.

Freshman Brooks Lathrop and sophomore Jaxson Porter both placed sixth for the Wolverines.

Rae, who was 0-1 on Friday, was 2-1 on Saturday to place fifth in the 144-pound bracket.

Rae scored a 17-0 technical fall win over Chenango Forks' Brody Livermore in the first consolation round-of-4.

After losing via fall in the consolations semifinals, Rae received a medial forfeit from Oneonta's Evan Waltz in the fifth-place match.

Newman, who was 0-1 Friday, also went 2-1 Saturday, receiving an injury default win and a medical forfeit from Porter in the fifth-place match from , sandwiched around a 6-1 loss in the consolation semis to Oneonta's Eli Daggy.

Porter, who was also 0-1 Friday, went 0-2 Saturday to finish six at 285 pounds.

Lathrop, who was 2-1 Friday, went 0-2 Saturday to finish sixth in the 190-pound bracket. 

After a loss via fall in the consolation semifinals, Lathrop dropped a hard-fought, 8-7, decision to Vestal's Seth Carlton in the fifth-place match.

Freshman Jax Myers (165 pounds) and Mason Phillips (110 pounds) each lost their only match Saturday to finish the tournament at 0-2.

Waverly's more experienced wrestlers will be in action Sunday at the Armbar at the Armory.
