Valley Sports ReportHALFMOON, N.Y. — Senior Cooper Robinson won an individual title as did senior Ely Newman and junior Joey Mack here Saturday at the Journeymen "Armbar at the Armory."
Robinson was victorious in a premier Yellow pool, while Newman and Mack won Blue pool titles.
Sophomore Matthias Welles and Rhylee Stotler each had second-place finishes in their respective Yellow pool, and senior Daltton Davis collected a fourth-place in his Yellow pool.
Robinson was 4-0 to win the 157-pound Yellow pool.
Robinson opened his day with a 15-0 technical fall in 44 seconds against Iona Prep's Malcolm Davis, then scored a 20-4 technical fall in 3:03 against Christian Brother Academy's Trace Taber.
In his next match, Robinson built a 9-2 lead before pinning West Genesee's Austin Designer in 2:46.
In the first-place match, Robinson scored a pair takedowns inn 8-6 win over Garden City's Gabe Cohen.
Senior Ely Newman was 3-0 to win the 285-pound Blue pool.
Newman opened his day with a 61-second fall of Byram Hills' George Sickles, then decked Cicero-North Syracuse's Luke Zercher in 2:29.
In the first-place match, Newman scored a fall of Garden City's Cooper Bromberg in 1:17.
Junior Joey Mack was 3-0 to win the 165-pound Blue pool.
Mack scored a 34-second fall of Tioga's Aiden Black in the opening round, then forged a 19-5 major decision of CBA's Enter Kosova.
In his final match, Mack built an 11-0 lead before finishing off Cicero-North Syracuse's Carlo Abboud in 1:39.
Welles was 2-1 to finish second in the 215-pound Yellow pool.
Welles began the day with an 83-second pin of Iona Prep's Lorenzo Gunzer, then followed it up with a 65-second pin of Cicero-North Syracuse's Mike Pease.
In his final match, Welles led Cicero-North Syracuse's Kaydin Welch, 11-0, late in the first period, but Welch regrouped to close the gap to 11-8 before recording the fall at 5:16.
Stotler was 2-1 to finish second in the 126-pound Yellow pool.
Stotler won his first two matches to advance to the 126-pound finale. He opened with a pin of Valley Central's Ian Gentles in 3:52, then won a wild, 12-10, decision with a takedown at the final buzzer.
In the first-place match, CBS standout Lica Popolizio took Stotler to his back for a 25-seconds fall.
Davis was 2-2 to finish fourth in the 138-pound Yellow pool.
Davis won his first two matches of the day, pinning Byram Hills' Vince Palermiti in 4:42, when scoring a 4-0 decision over Cooperstown's Max Koffer.
Davis dropped a 10-4 decision to Iona Pre's Shane Degl in his final pool play match, then dropped a 3-1 decision to Monroe-woodbury's Caleb Brown in the third-place match.
Bowman 1-3 in for 7th-place in the 118-pound Yellow pool. His one win was a 17-0 technical fall in 2:36 against Corinth's Lenny Rosa in the seventh-place match.
Larson was 0-4 in the 150-pound Yellow pool.
Waverly returns to action Thursday at Chenango Valley.
