Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Kezlyn DeKay knocked down four 3-pointers in the first quarter to help Waverly to a quick double-digit lead on its way to a 52-13 win over Troy here Saturday afternoon in non-league junior varsity girls basketball action.
DeKay's 12 points and Addison Foster's five led the Wolverines to a 21-1 lead after the first eight minutes.
Taylin Gonzalez and Mya Wheeler each scored four points in the second quarter as Waverly outscored Troy, 8-2, to take a 29-3 lead into the halftime locker room.
Gonzalez scored seven more points in the third quarter as Waverly used a 13-9 advantage in the stanza to take a 42-12 lead into the final eight minutes.
Sydney Donovan canned a pair of 3-pointers to pace Waverly's 10-1 game-closing run in the fourth quarter.
DeKay led Waverly with 16 points, four steals, two assists, and one blocked shot, while Gonzalez had 13 points and three rebounds, and Foster had seven points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.
Wheeler had six points, three rebounds and three steals in the win, while Donovan scored six points, Raygane Oakes dished out four assists, and Sophia Dorsey chipped in with three rebounds and three steals.
Waverly, now 8-1, returns to action Wednesday at Chenango Valley.
