NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: SULLIVAN COUNTY ROLLS OVER SAYRE (January 5, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportLAPORTE — Sullivan County started fast — on both ends of the floor, and never looked back in a 70-17 win over Sayre here Monday night in non-league boys basketball action.
"We took a bus ride and never got off the bus," said Sayre coach Paul Blythe.
"It was a poor shooting night coupled with poor defensive rebounding," noted Blythe. "We played very poor basketball.
"It’s something that must be fixed and will be fixed moving forward.
"We are a very young squad with very little playing time at the varsity level coming into this season," said Blythe. "Top to bottom, we only have Declan Barry with any true varsity basketball playing time last season. Everyone else is new.
"Keeping that in mind, we will continue to work hard to improve ourselves and lay the groundwork for successful play as the season goes along," added Blythe.
Sullivan County raced out to a 23-1 lead after the first eight minutes.
Junior Rommel Suba scored Sayre's only field goal of the first half, but the Griffins used a 17-2 run in the second quarter to take a 40-3 lead into the halftime intermission.
Declan Barry led Sayre with six points and three blocked shots, while Tyrese Gamby scored five points, Suba added five rebounds and two steals, and sophomore Riley Johnson grabbed five rebounds.
Sayre hosts Cowanesque Valley Tuesday night.
