NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: LATE RUN LIFTS COWANESQUE VALLEY TO 53-31 WIN OVER SAYRE (15 PHOTOS) (January 6, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE — Cowanesque Valley closed the game with a 28-8 run to blow open a close game in a 53-31 win over Sayre here Tuesday night in NTL Small School Division boys basketball action.
Senior Carter Bleiler, who drained a 3-pointer, and sophomore Riley Johnson, who converted an old-fashion three-point play, scored five points apiece in the first quarter, but the Indians led 15-12 after the first eight minutes.
Bleiler added another 3-pointer and Johnson scored a buck at Sayre tied the game 1t 17-17 with 5:45 remaining in the first half.
CV closed out the game with a 7-0 spurt to take a 24-17 lead into the halftime locker room.
Junior Declan Barry scored a pair of buckets in the opening minute of the second half, junior Rommel Suba scored on a runner off the glass with 6:15 remaining in the third quarter.
Three minutes later, CV's Ashton Burdick canned a 3-pointer to cap a 9-0 burst that gave the Indians a 34-23 lead.
Bleiler buried a pair of 3-pointers and Sayre closed the gap to four, at 37-33, in the final minute of the third quarter.
CV led 39-33 heading into the fourth quarter, and put the game away with a 14-2 blitz in the final eight minutes.
Bleiler led Sayre with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, two rebounds and one blocked shot, and Johnson had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Barry added four points, four rebounds and one block for the Redskins, while junior Rommel Suba chipped in with three rebounds and four assists, sophomore Riley McGaughey grabbed six rebounds, and Tyrese Gamby grabbed three boards.
Sayre returns to action Thursday when it hosts NEB.
