NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS RIDES STRONG SECOND HALF TO 44-34 WIN OVER NP-MANSFIELD (19 PHOTOS) (January 7, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens used a strong second half to rally for a 44-34 win over North Penn-Mansfield here Wednesday night in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action.
The Wildcats started slow and trailed 10-1 after the first eight minutes.
Sophomore Allison Kemp knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, and junior McKenna Jarvis added four points to lead Athens in a 10-6 spurt that closed the gap to 16-11 at the half.
Jarvis scored eight points in the third quarter, while sophomore Alissa Vough added seven points and Kemp drained a 3-pointer to fuel a 19-8 run that put the Wildcats in front 30-24 heading into the final eight minutes.
Jarvis scored seven points, and Athens made enough free throws ((6 of 16) in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
The Wildcats made just 14 of 33 free throws in the contest.
Jarvis led Athens with 19 points, eight steals, two assists and two rebounds, while Vough had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals, Kemp added nine points, three rebounds and two assists, and senior Ava Hughes hauled down 10 rebounds and recorded two steals.
Athens returns to action Friday at Troy.
JV — NP-M 42, Athens 36: Alexis Mayo led Athens with 16 points.
