Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Waverly rolled to its sixth and seventh straight wins Friday and Tuesday to improve to 8-2 on the season.
The Wolverines thumped Chenango Forks, 67-40, Friday, and rolled to a 69-28 win over Addison Tuesday.
Waverly 69, Addison 28On Tuesday, Waverly used a second-quarter blitz to blow-open a close game on its way to a 69-28 non-league win over Addison Tuesday night.
Drew Croft scored eight points in the first quarter, while Axel Murray added five points, and Bryce Fiske canned a 3-pointer to lead Waverly to an 18-12 lead after the opening eight minutes.
Murray pumped in 10 points in the second quarter, while Fiske scored five, Croft added fur, and Maddex Presher drained a 3-pointer to fuel a 22-2 blitz that put the Wolverines up 40-14 at the half.
Six different Wolverines put their names in the scoring column in the third quarter, including Presher, who scored five points and Croft and Brock Rose, who each canned 3-pointers, in a 15-7 run that extended the lead to 55-21 heading into the final eight minutes.
Cooper Skovira scored four points in the fourth quarter, and Cole Hunt added a 3-pointer as Waverly closed the game with a 14-7 run.
Murray led Waverly with 17 points, seven rebounds, and one blocked shot, while Croft had 15 points seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, and Presher had 10 points, three rebounds and five steals.
Fiske had eight points and five assists in the win, while Rose had six points and three steals, and Ian Johnston had four points, three rebounds, and four steals.
Skovira chipped in with four points and three rebounds in the win, while Brody Lambert dished out four assists and grabbed three boards, Hunt hauled down five rebounds and James Cole added three boards.
Waverly 67, Chenango Forks 40On Friday, Waverly pulled out to a quick double-digit lead and cruised to a 67-40 win over STAC Central Division rival Chenango Forks.
Drew Croft scored nine points in the first quarter, while Axel Murray scored eight, Brycen Fiske added four, and Ian Johnston knocked down a 3-pointer to fuel a game-opening 26-10 lead.
Maddex Presher scored five points in the second quarter, while Fiske and Cooper Skovira connected from behind the 3-point arc in a 14-8 run that extended the Wolverine advantage to 40-18 at the halftime intermission.
Forks trimmed two points off the Waverly lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Wolverines put the game away in the final stanza with a 17-10 advantage.
Murray led Waverly with 19 points, six rebounds, four blocked shots, and three steals, while Croft had 16 points, six boards, four assists, and seven steals, and Fiske had 11 points and five steals.
Presher had nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the win, while Ian Johnston grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists, Skovira and Brock each had three rebounds, and Brody Lambert notched three steals.
Waverly returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Seton Catholic.
