NTL JV BOYS BASKETBALL: SAYRE TOPS CANTON, 43-35, FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON (January 16, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportCANTON — Sayre built a seven-point halftime lead on its way to its win of the season, a 43-35 victory over Canton here Thursday night in NTL junior varsity boys basketball action.
Tyrese Gamby scored five points in the first quarter to help Sayre to a 7-6 lead after the opening stanza.
Brayden Northrup and Gamby scored four points apiece in the second quarter, and Gabe Wheeler canned a 3-pointer to fuel Sayre's 11-5 run in the second quarter to put the Redskins up 18-11 at the half.
Gamby and Logan Zingeser each drained 3-pointers and scored five points apiece in the third quarter, but the Warriors outscored the Redskins, 14-12, to close the gap to 30-25 heading into the final eight minutes.
Gamby tossed in eight points in the fourth quarter as Sayre closed the game with a 13-10 advantage in the closing stanza.
Gamby led Sayre with 22 points, while Northrup scored nine, Zingeser added five points, and Quinn Chandler chipped in with four points.
Sayre returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Canton.
