Valley Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Waverly built a 10-point halftime lead en route to a 40-28 win over Chenango Valley here Friday night in STAC Central Division junior varsity girls basketball action.
Four different Waverly players put their name in the scoring column in the first quarter to help the Wolverines to a 9-7 lead.
Kezlyn DeKay canned a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the second quarter to fuel a 13-5 run that gave Waverly a 22-12 lead heading into the halftime locker room.
CV trimmed a bucket off its deficit with an 8-6 advantage in the third quarter, and trailed 28-20 heading into the final eight minutes.
DeKay scored four points in the fourth quarter, and the Wolverines clinched their victory with a 12-8 spurt in the closing stanza.
DeKay led Waverly with 14 points and four blocked shots, while Meeya Wheeler had seven points and five steals, and Paige Bubniak scored five points.
Addison Foster had four points, nine rebounds, two assists, and one blocked shot in the win, while Raygane Oakes added four points, Sophia Dorsey had five boards, two assists, and three steals, and Isabella McEwen grabbed five rebounds.
Waverly, now 10-1, hosts Seton Catholic Saturday.
