WAVERLY — Seton Catholic used a strong second half to pull away in a 60-48 win over Waverly, snapping its seven-game win streak, here Saturday afternoon in STAC Central Division junior varsity boys basketball action.

"Every time we got within five or six points, (Tyler) Dempsey would hit a 3, then it went from six or seven up to nine or 10," said Waverly coach Mike Croft. "We just couldn’t get the necessary stops needed."

Drew Croft knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points for the Wolverines in the first quarter, and Axel Murray added seven points, but Seton Catholic led 12-11 after the opening stanza.

Croft canned another 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, and Brycen Fiske added a trey, but the Saints used a 12-10 advantage to take a 23-20 lead into the halftime break.

Tyler Dempsey knocked down a trio of 3-pointers for nine points, and Mason Stanton added a trey and scored seven points as the Saints used a 20-14 run to take a 44-35 lead into the final eight minutes.

Croft connected on a pair of shots from behind the 3-point arc and scored eight points in the third quarter to keep the Wolverines in the game.

Fiske scored seven points, including a 3-pointer, in the fourth quarter for the Wolverines, and Murray canned a 3-pointer, but Seton Catholic closed the game with a 16-13 advantage to seal the win.

Croft led Waverly with 22 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals, and Fiske had 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Murray had nine points, 10 boards, and two blocked shots for the Wolverines, while Brody Lambert added four points, and Maddex Presher grabbed three rebounds.

Tyler Dempsey led Seton Catholic with 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and Ryan Eagles added 15.

Waverly, now 8-3 returns to action Saturday at Owego Free Academy.
