NTL JV BOYS BASKETBALL: ATHENS PULLS AWAY LATE IN 46-28 WIN OVER TOWANDA (January 20, 2026)

ATHENS — Athens built an eight-point lead through three quarter, then finished off the game with a 10-0 run in a 46-28 win over Towanda here Saturday afternoon in NTL junior varsity boys basketball action.

Hunter Brennan scored four points, and Aiden Vanderpool made all three free throws after being fouled on a shot behind the 3-point arc to help Athens to a 13-11 lead after the opening stanza.

Alex McQuay scored four points in the second quarter, and Vanderpool canned a 3-pointer in an 11-6 run that gave the junior Wildcats a 24-17 lead heading into the halftime intermission.

Eli Wayman and Kade Rowe scored four points apiece, and the Wildcats were 6-for-7 from the free-throw line for a 12-11 advantage that extended the lead to 36-28 heading into the final eight minutes.

Vanderpool scored five points, including his second 3-pointer, in the fourth quarter, and the Wildcats defense shut out the Black Knights in a 10-0 run.

Vanderpool led a balanced Athens offense with 12 points, while Rowe and Wayman each scored eight points, McQuay added six points, and Brennan chipped in with four.

Athens returns to action Wednesday at Canton.
