DUNCANSON WINS FIFTH IAC GOLD, McKEE WINS THIRDValley Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN — Tioga had 15 wrestlers reach the podium, including five champions and five runners-up, and ran away with the team title at the IAC wrestling championships here Saturday at the Watkins Glen Field House.
Junior Declan McKee, seniors Jayden Duncanson and Kadin Cole, and sophomores Drayke Ulrich and Mark McCane won weight class titles, while juniors Caden Bradley and James Howey, freshman Harold Corby, and seniors Logan Bellis and Brayden MacWhinnie were runners-up.
Senior Aiden Black, and freshmen Parker Jackson and Liamm Comstock were each third-place finishers, and 8th-grader Carson LaBour and sophomore Jamie Woodcock each placed fifth.
Tioga amassed 319.5 points to claim the team title, and second-place Newark Valley tallied 250.5 points. Schuyler was third with 181 points, while Marathon was fourth with 113.5 points, and Moravia was fifth with 108 points.
McKee, the top seed, was 3-0 to win the 110-pound title — his third IAC title in a row.
McKee scored falls in 28 and 44 seconds, before forging an 18-9 major decision over Edison standout Mason Vanderhoof in the finals.
Ulrich, who was a runner-up last year, was 3-0 to win the 103 pound title.
Ulrich, the top seed, scored a pin in 80 seconds, and a 16-1 technical fall in his first two matches, before scoring a 13-0 major decision over teammate freshman Harold Corby in the finals.
Corby, the third seed, reach the finals with a pair of technical fall wins, including a 15-0 win over second-seeded Simon Griggs of Moravia.
Duncanson, the top seed, was 3-0 to win the 138-pound title — his fifth IAC championships.
Duncanson registered falls in 25 and 62 seconds to advance to the finals, where he scored an 18-3 technical fall of SVEC's Kamren Westbrook in 3:08.
Cole, the top seed, to win the 126-pound title.
Cole won all three matches by fall in 65 seconds or less, including a pin of Lansing's Aaden McMillen in 57 seconds in the finals.
McCane, the top seed, was 3-0 to win the 285-pound title.
McCane won all three matches via first-period fall, including a 24-second flattening of Dryden Hauke Gelder. McCane claimed the title with a 32-second pin of Newark Valley's Jack Blomberg.
Bradley, the third seed, was 2-1 to place second in the 144-pound bracket.
In the semifinals, he avenged a pair of regular-season losses with a 2-1 sudden-victory decision over Newark Valley's Marcos Escalante.
In the finals, Bradley dropped a 4-0 decision to top-seeded Evan Sheils of Lansing.
Bellis was 2-1 to place second in the 118-pound weight class.
Bellis scored pins in 40 and 64 seconds to reach the finals, where he issued a medical forfeit to Schuyler's Lucas Hoffman.
MacWhinnie was 2-1 to finish second in the 132-pound bracket.
He scored pins in 66 and 21 seconds to reach the finals, where he issued a medical forfeit to Dryden's Oscar Brotherton.
Howey, the second seed, was 2-1 to finish second in the 190-pound bracket.
Howey recorded a pair of first-period pins to reach the finals, where he dropped a 10-1 major decision to top-seeded Titus Callahan of Newark Valley.
Jackson was 3-1 to finish third in the 110-pound bracket.
After winning by first-period fall in the quarterfinals, Jackson lost via technical fall to Vanderhoof in the semifinals.
He bounced back with an 18-2 technical fall in the consolation semifinals, then pinned Newark Valley's Andrew Lelik in 2:28 in the third-place match.
Comstock was 3-1 to place third in the 118-pound title.
Comstock's three wins were by a combined four points, including a 7-6 sudden-victory win over Newark Valley's Kenny Slater in the opening round, and a 4-3 win over Schuyler's Nicky Socre in the third-place match.
Black was 3-1 to finish third in the 165-pound bracket.
Black, whose only loss was to eventual champ Cadin Creeley of Newark Valley in the semifinals. He edge Groton's Max Bishop, 7-5, in the quarterfinal in the closest of his three wins.
In the third-place match, Black forged a 14-5 major decision over Edison's Aiden Quackenbush.
LaBour was 3-2 to finish fifth in the 175-pound weight class.
After losing to SVEC's Cooper Zufall in the quarterfinals, LaBour bounced back with a pair of pins to advance to the consolation semifinals, where he lost to Newark Valley's Elijah Williams.
In the fifth-place match, LaBour received a medical forfeit from Zufall.
Woodcock was 2-2 to place fifth in the 215-pound bracket.
Woodcock won his quarter-final match with Whitney Point's Travis Leet, beating the first-period buzzer with a fall at 1:57.
After consecutive losses, Woodcock pinned Marathon's Ayden O'Donnell in the fifth-place match in 2:03.
Senior Max Paugh was 2-2 in the 285-pound bracket, his two wins coming by fall in 54 seconds and 2:25.
