NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS CRUISES TO BIG WIN OVER SAYRE (24 PHOTOS) (January 27, 2026)

ATHENS — Athens scored the first 20 points of the game and coasted to a 61-10 win over Sayre here Tuesday night in NTL girls basketball action.

The Wildcats used their pressing defense to pile up points early in the game, with junior McKenna Jarvis the main recipient of transition points. She scored 17 first-quarter points, including one 3-pointer.

Sophomore Brooklyn Roberts put the Redskins on the board with 1:48 remaining the in the first quarter to close the gap to 20-2.

Athens scored the final seven points of the first quarter, then scored the first 14 points of the second quarter to take a 41-2 lead.

Sophomore Alissa Vough scored eight points in the second quarter, and Jarvis canned a pair of 3-pointers as the Wildcats stretched its lead to 47-7 at the half.

The second half was played in running time, with the Wildcats outscoring the Redskins, 14-3.

Jarvis had 29 points, including five 3-pointers, three rebounds, two assists, and four steals, and Vough had 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and six steals to lead the Wildcats.

Freshman Alexis Mayo scored seven points in the win, while senior Ava Hughes had six points, eight rebounds, and five steals, junior Brielle Mayo added four rebounds and three assists, junior Megan Morgan grabbed three boards, and freshman Bilikula Wennie chipped in with two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots.

Lantz led Sayre with three points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots, while senior Olivia Thompson had five points and three rebounds, sophomore McKenna Parrish had three steals, and sophomore Emily Strickland three rebounds and one blocked shot.

Athens returns to action Thursday when it hosts Towanda, while Sayre travels to Williamson.
