NTL JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS ROLLS TO BIG WIN OVER SAYRE (24 PHOTOS) (January 28, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens limited Sayre to a pair of free throws in the first half, and raced out to a big lead on its way to a 54-11 win here Tuesday night in NTL junior varsity girls basketball action.
Alexis Mayo scored six points in the first quarter, and Olivia Niles added five to help Athens to a 12-0 lead after the opening stanza.
Bilikula Wennie scored eight points in the second quarter, while Niles and Stella Unger, who canned a pair of 3-pointers, scored six points apiece, and Mayo added five points to fuel a 25-2 blutz that put Athens up 37-2 at the halftime intermission.
The second half was played in running time, with Athens outscoring
Sayre, 17-9.
Mayo drained a 3-pointer in the third quarter for Athens' only points in a 3-2 advantage.
Unger pumped in 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the fourth quarter in a game-closing 14-7 run for the Wildcats.
Unger led Athens with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, while Mayo scored 14 points, Wennie added 12 points, and Niles chipped in with 11 points.
Afftyn VanDuzer had five points, including a 3-pointer, to lead Sayre, while Emily Strickland hauled down eight boards and blocked one shot, and McKenna Parrish added two rebounds and two blocked shots.
Athens returns to action Thursday when it hosts Towanda, while Sayre travels to Williamson.
