STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: NORWICH RALLIES IN SECOND HALF TO TOP WAVERLY, 72-66 (24 PHOTOS) (January 30, 2026)

WAVERLY — Norwich turned in a strong second half to rally for a 72-66 win over Waverly here Friday night in STAC girls basketball action.

Senior Kaitlyn Sutton and sophomore Kaylin Twedt each canned 3-pointers and scored five points apiece for the Wolverines in the first quarter, and junior Ryleigh Judson added a 3-pointer, but Norwich led 18-17 after the first eight minutes.

Judson knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in a 12-point second quarter, and Twedt and sophomore Lauryn Welles each scored four points to fuel a 22-point quarter that put Waverly ahead 39-36 at the halftime intermission.

Sophomore Maci Wheeler drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the third quarter, and Judson also knocked down a 3-pointer, but the Purple Tornadoes used a 17-13 advantage in the stanza to take a 53-52 lead into the final eight minutes.

Senior Brilynn Belles drained a 3-pointer and scored five points in the fourth quarter, but Norwich hit a pair of key 3-pointers and made 9 of 12 attempts from the free-throw line to seal the win, while Waverly was just 3 of 8 from the line in the stanza.

Judson led three Waverly scorers in double-figures with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, while Twedt scored 15 points, and Wheeler added 13 points.

Belles scored nine points for the Wolverines, while Sutton added seven points, and Welles chipped in with four.

Brooklyn Burke led Norwich with 23 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and Kerrigan Reid added 13 points.

Waverly, now 8-7, returns to action Tuesday at Oneonta.
