IAC GIRLS WRESTLING: TIOGA CROWNS TWO CHAMPS, PLACES FIFTH AT HOMER LADY LEGACY TOURNAMENT (14 PHOTOS) (January 31, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportHOMER — Junior Amelia Toomey and sophomore Kyah Nelson won titles, and junior Marcy Moniz was a runner-up here Saturday to lead Tioga to a fifth-place team finish at the Homer Lady Legacy Girls Wrestling Tournament.
Fulton amassed 265 points to win the team title, while Homer was runner-up with 172.5 points, West Genesee was third with 161.5 points, and Baldwinsville was fourth with 136 points. Tioga tallied 130.5 points.
Junior Amelia Toomey was 4-0, including three falls and one technical fall, to win the 138-pound title.
Toomey opened the day by decking's Riley Emerich in 38 seconds, then scored an 11-0 technical fall of Homer's Yubani Deer in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Toomey pinned West Genesee's Julia Litovkina.
She closed out her title run with a pin of Homer's Eila Spanbauer in 1:57.
Junior Kyah Nelson was 3-0, with two falls and one technical fall, to win the 185-pound title.
Nelson opened the day with a 10-0 technical fall of Cicero-North Syracuse's Claire Greenfield in the quarterfinals.
Nelson pinned West Genesee's Ayana Dishaw in 39 seconds in the semifinals, then decked Fulton's Graciela Vasquez in 24 seconds in the finals.
Junior Marcy Moniz, the third seed, was 2-1 to finish second at 152 pounds.
Marcy Moniz decked Alison Kelly of Cicero-North Syracuse in 40 seconds in the quarterfinals to start her day, then pinned second-seed Fulton's Eva-Mae Meeker in 5:53 in the semifinals.
In the finals, Marcy Moniz took top-seeded Ana Cartagena deep into the match before losing by fall at 5:41.
Freshman Emily Moniz was 1-1 to finish fifth at 235 pounds.
Emily Moniz lost to Windsor's Chelsea Stoeckel in the quarterfinals, then pinned C-NS's Lianna Haddad in 4:16 in the fifth-place match.
Senior Sophia Haney as 3-2 to finish seventh at 132 pounds.
Haney opened her day with a pin of Fulton's Faith O'Brien in 1:37 in the round-of-16, but lost to Homer's Brielle Nels in the quarterfinals.
Haney bounced back with a pin of Homer's Elle Rooks in 4:01 in the blood round, but lost to Gouverneur's Ainsleigh Among in 3:52 in the consolation semis.
In the seventh-place match, Haney pinned O'Brien again, this time in 4:15.
Sophomore Córa Szymanski was 3-2 to finish seventh at 138 pounds.
Szymanski pinned C-NS's Ava Agnosti in 1:36 in the opening round, then lost via technical fall to Fulton's Savannah Emmons in the quarterfinals.
Szymanski won a 10-0 technical fall over Johnson CIty's Hali Blakeslee in the blood round, then lost to Sidney's Sophie Baudendistel in the consolation semifinals.
In the seventh-place match, Szymanski scored a 16-6 technical fall of Fulton's Sahara-Lynne Raymond.
Freshman Grace Howey 2-3 to finish eighth at 120 pounds.
Howey pinned Fulton's Dailiah Vasquez in 1:52 in the opening round.
After a loss in the quarterfinals, Howey scored a 10-0 technical fall over Falconer's Braylee McAdoo in the blood round, but dropped her next two bouts.
Senior Mia Hall was 2-2 at 114 pounds. After losing her first match, Hall bounced back with a pin of Walton-Delhi's Gwynavere Northrup in 2:23, and Homer's Kylee Dawson in 2:20, before losing to Owego's Michaela Daly.
Sophomore Vida Rossi was 2-2 at 120 pounds. She won her first two bouts, pinning West Genesee's Charlotte Retkwa in 3:42, and decking Baldwinsville's Cheyenne Chapman in 39 seconds, before losing to Homer's Abby Aldrich in the quarterfinals. She then lost her first match in wrestlebacks.
Tioga returns to action Feb. 13 at the Section IV Championships at the Vision Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.
