STAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY EDGES NORWICH IN FINAL SECONDS; TOPS VESTAL, 59-47 (February 4, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Brody Lambert's old-fashion three-point play with 4.1 seconds remaining lifted Waverly to a 60-58 win in a back-and-forth contest at Norwich Friday, and the Wolverines added another win here Monday against Vestal in STAC junior varsity boys basketball action.

Waverly 60, Norwich 58"Once again, I’m beyond proud of my team," said Waverly coach Mike Croft. "We played a very intense game at Norwich and made enough timely shots on offense and enough defensive stops to get a huge road win.
"Players stepped up when needed," he added. "My team was pretty banged up with four kids playing thru injuries, but kids rose to the occasion."
Drew Croft canned a 3-pointer and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the first quarter, while Maddex Presher knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points, and Brycen Fiske added four points to help the Wolverines to a 16-15 lead after the opening stanza.
Fiske drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the second quarter, but Norwich used a 14-10 spurt to take a 29-26 lead into the halftime intermission.
Axel Murray knocked down a 3-pointer and scored eight points in the third quarter, and Fiske added six points as Waverly outscored Norwich, 19-14, to take a 45-43 lead into the final eight minutes.
Norwich led in the final minute of a back-and-forth fourth quarter, but Croft's 3-pointer with 38 seconds remaining game the Wolverines a 57-56.
Norwich answered to go back up 58-57.
The Wolverines missed on its next opportunity to regain the lead, and Norwich rebounds.
Waverly's defense stepped up, however, and forced consecutive held-balls to give the Wolverines possession.
With 4.1 seconds remaining, Waverly in-bounded underneath its bucket, and Lambert popped open to hit the game-winner.
Fiske led Waverly with 22 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and four rebounds, and Croft had 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Murray had 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots in the win, while Lambert added seven points, three rebounds, and three assists, and Presher chipped in with six points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Monday
Waverly 59, Vestal 47Waverly built a nine-point lead at halftime on its way to a 59-47 win over Vestal on its home court Monday night.
Axel Murray scored six points in the first quarter, and Brycen Fiske and Maddex Presher each canned 3-pointers to lead the Wolverines to a 12-6 lead after the first eight minutes.
Fiske scored seven points in the second quarter, including a late 3-pointer, that put Waverly up 27-18 heading into the halftime locker room.
Presher scored six points in the third quarter as Waverly used a 13-11 advantage in the stanza to carry a 40-29 lead into the final eight minutes.
Presher poured in 11 points in the fourth quarter, including his second 3-pointer of the game, and Lambert added five points, including a 3-pointer, as Waverly closed the game outscoring Norwich, 19-18, in the final stanza.
Presher led Waverly with 22 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and Fiske had 13 points, four boards, and two assists to lead the Wolverines.
Murray had 11 points and six rebonds in the win, while Lambert added five points, four rebounds, and two assists, and Drew Croft contributed six rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
Waverly, now 11-4, returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Oneonta.
