STAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY PICKS UP WINS OVER NORWICH, ONEONTA (February 4, 2026)

WAVERLY — Waverly defended its home floor Friday with a 49-44 win over Norwich, then picked up a big road win Tuesday at Oneonta in STAC junior varsity girls basketball action.

The Wolverines need just one win in its next two games against Chenango Forks and Owego to clinch a division title.

Friday
Waverly 49, Norwich 44

Waverly built a 16-point halftime cushion, then fended off a furious second-half comeback bid in a 49-44 win over Norwich Friday night.

Kezlyn DeKay scored seven points and Raygane Oakes added five — both hitting 3-pointers in the process — to fuel Waverly's game-opening 16-4 blitz.

DeKay scored five points, including another 3-pointer, and Oakes canned her second 3-pointer, to help Waverly to a 25-9 lead at the halftime intermission.

Norwich outscored Waverly, 16-7, in the third quarter to close the gap to 32-25 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Purple Tornadoes remained hot in the fourth quarter, but Sophia Dorsey scored seven points, and DeKay added six points to maintain its lead.

The Wolverines also made 5 of 7 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

DeKay led Waverly with 18 points, while Dorsey scored 11, and Oakes added 10.

Monday
Waverly 36, Oneonta 26

Waverly jumped out to an early lead on its way to a 36-26 win over Oneonta Tuesday evening.

Kezlyn DeKay and Taylin Gonzalez scored five points apiece in the first quarter to lead Waverly to a 13-4 lead after the opening stanza.

Raygane Oakes knocked down a 3-pointer for the Wolverines in the second quarter, but Oneonta used an 8-5 spurt to close the gap to 18-12 at the half.

DeKay scored four points in the third quarter to help Waverly to an 8-6 advantage, and a 26-18 lead heading in the closing eight minutes.

Oakes canned another 3-pointer, and Adrianna Foster made a pair of key free throws as Waverly preserve the victory.

DeKay led a balanced attack with 10 points, while Gonzalez scored nine, and Oakes and Sophia Dorsey each added six.

Waverly, now 14-2, travels to Chenango Forks Friday.
