NTL JUNIOR HIGH WRESTLING: ATHENS COMPLETES SECOND STRAIGHT UNBEATEN LEAGUE DUALS SEASON (February 5, 2026)

ATHENS — The Athens junior high wrestling team recently completed its second consecutive undefeated NTL dual meet season.

"The team put together an outstanding 2025–2026 dual meet season, showcasing hard work, depth, and steady improvement from start to finish," said one of its coaches.

The dual season opened in strong fashion with a convincing 56–30 victory over Wellsboro, setting the tone early.

The Wildcats then traveled to the Honesdale Duals, where they went an impressive 5–1 to start the year. Wins included close and hard-fought battles against Honesdale (40–37), Wallenpaupack (44–32), Stroudsburg (41–32), Wilkes-Barre Area (51–32), and Pocono Mountain West (41–33), with the team’s only loss coming against a rugged Jersey Shore team.

Athens carried that momentum through the remainder of the season with a string of dominant performances. The Wildcats defeated Williamson, 52–30. and followed it up with a convincing 61–16 win over Wyalusing. 

The team continued to roll with decisive victories over Canton (73–0), Troy (55–18), NEB (66–18) and a tough 42–39 win over North Penn-Liberty. 

Athens then closed the season with a 54-22 win over Towanda.

Emmitt Kingsley, Zavier Lezak, Ned MacBride, Jacob MacBride, Austin Nason, Sawyer Nason, Easton Raynor, Gavin Ross, Josh Schneider, Zachariah Sorensen, Kamien Smith, and Liam Warner.

"The future of Athens wrestling is bright, and this junior high squad laid an excellent foundation for continued success in the years ahead," said a coach.

Junior high wrestlers will close out the NTL season Feb. 13 when Athens hosts the Junior High Sectional Tournament. Wrestling begins at 3 p.m.
