Valley Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — Waverly knocked down a school-record 16 3-pointers, including a record-breaking eight treys in the opening stanza in an 86-46 rout of Horseheads here Monday night in STAC boys basketball crossover action.
"Tonight was a big game for us," said Waverly coach Lou Judson. "Playing a bigger school, knowing we could get five (Sectional) points with the win, and knowing how close were are win Norwich, we came in pretty focused tonight, and probably played our best basketball game of the season."
Senior Hogan Shaw canned four 3-pointers and had a rare four-point play for 13 points in the opening stanza, while sophomore Jack Pipher drained a trio of 3-pointers for nine points, and freshman Braiden Judson added five points, including a 3-pointer, in Waverly's game-opening 34-11 run.
The Wolverines led 25-3 just 4 1/2 minutes into the game.
"Scoring 34 points and making eight 3-pointers in the first quarter is not something that happens often, but we continued to shoot ball well," said Judson. "And, it was multiple guys.
"I felt like we shared basketball extremely well tonight, and made the extra pass," noted Judson. "The guys were unselfish and played well.
"A lot of guys got in tonight, and everyone was feeling good about themselves," added Judson. "We had 12 guys get in the scoring column, and that the first time it's happened this year."
Senior Porter Daddona, who had four points in the first quarter, scored four more points in the second quarter, and Shaw and Judson each canned 3-pointers, but Horseheads trimmed a point off its deficit with a 15-14 advantage in the stanza, and trialed 48-25 heading into the halftime intermission.

LaForest connected on two more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and senior Carter Davies and junior Carson Rockwell also added 3-pointers in the record-breaking effort.
