STAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY WRAPS UP SEASON WITH 64-40 WIN OVER OWEGO (February 13, 2026)

WAVERLY — Waverly led by five at half, but pulled away in the second half to close out its season with a 64-40 win over Owego here Thursday in STAC Central Division junior varsity boys basketball action.

The Wolverines, without a sophomore on the roster for the first time in coach Mike Croft's 19 years on the bench, finished the season at 15-4.

"I’m very thankful for these kids and their efforts," said Croft.

"Molding 11 extremely young men — four 8th-graders and seven freshmen — into buying into a system I’ve used for years now isn’t easy.

"They trusted me and I’m thankful," added Croft.

Waverly started the season at 1-2, and had two seven-game win streaks on its way to 15-4.
  
Brycen Fiske and Drew Croft scored four points apiece in the first quarter to help Waverly to a 12-11 lead after the opening stanza.

Brody Lambert scored seven points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter, and Fiske and Brock Rose each canned 3-pointers as Waverly outscored Owego, 18-14, to take a 30-25 lead into the halftime intermission.

Fiske scored six points in the third quarter, and Croft added four to spark Waverly in a 15-7 run that extended the lead to 45-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final eight minutes, Maddex Presher scored five points, including a 3-pointer, while Cooper Skovira and Axel Murray scored four points apiece and Croft drained a 3-pointer in a game-closing 19-8 run.

Lambert led Waverly with 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals, while Croft had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals, and Fiske had 13 points, nine boards and seven steals.

Murray had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, and six blocked shots in the win, while Presher added five points and two assists, and Skovira chipped in with four points.
