STAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY TOP HORSEHEADS, 48-38; ADVANCES TO STAC TITLE GAME (February 16, 2026)
Valley Bowling CenterWAVERLY — Raygane Oakes and Addison Foster combined for 35 points to lead Waverly to a 58-48 win over Horseheads in the semifinals of the STAC junior varsity girls basketball championships.
Waverly will play the winner of Friday's game between Binghamton and Norwich at a time to be determined.
Foster scored six points in the first quarter and Sophia Dorsey and Oakes added four points apiece to help Waverly to a 15-11 lead after the opening stanza.
Kezlyn DeKay scored five points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter, but Horseheads outscored Waverly, 13-12, to close the gap to 27-24 at the halftime break.
Oakes knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter, and Foster added a bucket from behind the 3-point stripe as Waverly used a 12-11 advantage in the stanza to take a 39-35 lead into the final eight minutes.
In the fourth quarter, Oakes pumped in 10 points, including a 3-pointer and a 5-for-6 effort at the free-throw line, and Foster added five points as the Wolverines closed the game with a 19-13 run.
Waverly knocked down 8 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter, and was 14 of 20 in the game.
Oakes, who was 9 of 10 from the line, had 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and four rebounds, and Foster scored 16 points, hauled down 11 rebounds, and had two steals to lead the junior Wolverines.
Dorsey had nine points and seven boards in the win, while DeKay scored eight points, Gonzalez added four points and five assists, and Paige Bubniak chipped in with three rebounds.
Waverly improves to 17-2 on the season.
