WAVERLY — Senior Derek Johnson is headed back to the New York State Division 2 Boys Bowling Championships, but the Waverly boys came up shy in its four-peat bid at the State Qualifier here Friday at the Valley Bowling Center.

Sidney-Unatego won the Division 2 title with a nine-game total (including Class Sectionals) of 8,836 pins, while Waverly, which had won the last three State Qualifiers, tallied 8,741 to finish second, and third-place Owego rolled an 8,696.

Johnson, who rolled a 680 series at Sectionals, shots series of 617 and 696 Friday to earn a spot on the Division 2 composite all-star team at States.

Johnson rolled games of  210, 196, and 206 in the morning, and 225, 257, and 214 in the afternoon for a nine-game total of 1,988, which was third behind Chenango Forks' Landon Butenko (2,186) and Owego's Connor Kotski (2,138).

Freshman Colton Santalucia finished 10th overall with a nine-game total of 1,798. He rolled series of 605 and 619 Friday.

Also on Friday, Maison Apgar shot series of 661 and 572, while sophomore Griff Walter shot a 521 series in the morning, and had games of 173 and 144 in the afternoon..

Senior Tristan Campbell shot a 624 series in the morning session, and rolled a 150 and 245 in the afternoon.

Freshman Trevor Allen shot identical games of 177 in the afternoon session.

The boys individual championships at 8 a.m. March 14 at the AMF Syracuse Lanes.
