SECTION IV GIRLS BOWLING: TIOGA'S HELMICH PUNCHES TICKET TO STATES; TIGERS PLACE FOURTH AT STATE QUALIFIER (February 28, 2026)

WAVERLY — Tioga's Kelsey Helmich punched her ticket to the New York State Girls Bowling Division 2 Championships here Saturday at the Section IV State Qualifier at the Valley Bowling Center.

The Tigers were fourth in the Division 2 team standings with 6,784 pins, well off the pace set by Section IV champ Windsor, which posted a nine-game set of 7,544. Unadilla Valley was second at 7,122, Oxford-Greene was third at 7,039, and Waverly was fifth at 6,716,

Helmich rolled a 596 series on games of 180, 210, and 206 in the morning session, and a 562 series in the afternoon, while included games of 210 and 203.

Pair those series with Helmich's 601 at Sectionals last week, and Helmich had a nine-game set of 1,759 to earn a spot on the Section IV all-star composite team.

She had the highest nine-game set for any of the girls on the composite team, which also includes Chenango Valley's Abby Herceg (1,609), Candor's Calli Marsh (1,556), Newark Valley's Rachel Hartman (1,550), Groton's Madelyn Pitts (1,547), and Sidney-Unatego's Stacy Tuttle (1,545).

Tioga's Liberty Magner was 18th overall and 15th in the composite standings with a nine-game set of 1,354.

Magner, who posted a 411 at Sectionals, rolled a 508 series in the morning session, and a 435 in the afternoon session.

Kelsey Ellis rolled a 406 in the morning and a 513 in the afternoon for a nine-game set of 1,329, while Sabrina Ellis had a 357 in the morning and a 402 in the afternoon for a nine-game tally of 1,217.

Katie Bleiler shot a 348 in the morning and a 447 in the afternoon for a nine-game set of 1,115.

The boys individual championships at 8 a.m. March 14 at the AMF Syracuse Lanes.

BOYS
Charles Holmes and Nick Slater had Tioga's top showings on the boys side, finishing 18th and 20th overall.

Holmes rolled a 528 series in the morning, and a 565 in the afternoon for a nine-game set of 1,603, while Slater shot a 536 in the morning and a 491 in the afternoon for a nine-game tally of 1,517.

Austin Mumbulo shot 501 and 396 Saturday for a nine-game set of 1,350, and Aaron Belles had a 385 and 395 for a nine-game tally of 1,021.
