SECTION IV BOWLING: HAYES PACES WAVERLY IN FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT DIVISION 2 STATE QUALIFIER (February 28, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly finished fifth in the team standings, and three girls in the top-20 of the individual standings here Saturday at the Section IV, Division 2 State Qualifier at the Valley Bowling Center.

Section IV champ Windsor posted a nine-game set of 7,544 and will represent at the N.Y. State Division 2 team championships, while Unadilla Valley was second at 7,122, Oxford-Greene was third at 7,039, Tioga was fourth at 6,784, and Waverly was fifth at 6,716.

Karis Hayes missed out on States by one spot. The top six not on the championship team advance to States on the Section IV composite team, and Hayes was seventh with a nine-game set of 1,471 — 74 pins short of the sixth-place finisher.

Hayes rolled a 543 series in the morning session, including a 203, and a 502 in the afternoon session. Couple those with a 426 at Sectionals and Hayes shot a 1,471.

Rylie Witman was 17th overall with a nine-game set of 1,388. After rolling a 467 at Sectionals, she shot a 467 in the morning and a 454 in at the afternoon Saturday.

Ariel Houseknecht was 19th with a nine-game set of 1,343. After a 419 at Sectionals, she shot a 455 in the morning and a 469 in the afternoon Saturday.

Aby Apgard finished with a 1,247, including a 412 in Saturday's morning session and a 421 in the afternoon, while Emmalynn Vanderpool shot series of 440 and 439 Saturday.
