Kali Bailey, a freshman on the Elmira College women's wrestling team, finished fifth in her weight class recently at the NCAA Region 1 women's wrestling championships here at the LECOM Events Center.
Bailey, the sixth seed, posted a 4-2 record on the day.
Bailey, now 17-14, opened her tournament with a pin of New Jersey City's Mackenzie Finn in 1:27.
In the quarterfinals, Bailey was locked in a 5-5 battle in the second period, when third-seeded Lindsey Rywolt scored a takedown and quickly transitioned it into a fall at 4:06.
In her first consolation bracket match, Bailey decked Utica's Dakoda House in 39 seconds.
She followed that up with a 10-0 technical fall of seventh-seeded Madison Wellen in 60 seconds.
In the consolation semifinals, Bailey lost via first-period fall to fourth-seeded Madison Wellen of D'Youville.
Bailey bounced back in the fifth-place match with an 11-5 decision over fifth-seeded Bella Sowards of Sacred Heart. Bailey led 8-0 on four takedowns after the first period.
At the first-ever Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships Feb. 7 at Alfred, Bailey posted a 1-1 record to finish second in the 131-pound weight class.
In the semifinals, Bailey pinned Alfred State's Brooke Walsh in 2:14.
In the finals, Bailey dropped an 8-6 decision to Penn State-Altoona's Gianna Slusser.
In the regular-season closing duals against Ithaca College and Utica University, Bailey scored a pair of wins.
In a 42-1 win over Ithaca, Bailey scored a pin in 2:30, and in a 44-0 win over Utica, she scored a 10-0 technical fall.
The NCAA National Tournament is set for March 6-7 in Coralville, Iowa.
