PIAA WRESTLING: FIRST TRIP TO STATE A VALUABLE EXPERIENCE FOR SAYRE'S BROWN (March 5, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportHERSHEY — Sayre junior Jordan Brown's first trip to the PIAAA, Class AA Wrestling Championships here at the Giant Center didn't net the results he wanted, but it was a valuable learning experience.
"Not the outcome we wanted obviously," said Sayre coach Ralph Warner. "It's State competition, so we knew no match is a walk-through
"It was his first time here," noted Warner. "I didn't think we wrestled horrible — two takedowns and a two-count turn one match, and a takedown and reversal knocked us out.
"We were right there in both matches, a takedown or so away from those wins.
"We knew what we had to get there, and now we know what we have to do to get on the podium there," added Warner. "We need to get to work in the off-season and come back our final year and put it all together."
In the preliminary round, Brown dropped an 8-0 major decision to Burrell's Ben Catullo.
Catullo scored a takedown late in the first period to take a 3-0 lead.
Brown rode top for the entire second period, but was able to turn Catullo for near-fall points.
Catullo upped his lead to 6-0 with a takedown with 1:21 remaining in the third period, then added a two-point tilt with 6 seconds remaining.
In the first round of wrestlebacks, Brown dropped a 5-0 decision to Meyersdale's Cooper Porter.
Porter scored a takedown late in the first period to take a 3-0 lead, then made it 5-0 with a reversal early in the second period.
Porter rode Brown out for the final 85 seconds of the second period, then fended off Brown's takedown attempts in the third period to preserve his 5-0 decision.
Brown finishes up his season with a 26-14 record.
