NEW YORK STATE FOOTBALL COACHES HONOR WAVERLY'S DAVIS WITH '12TH MAN AWARD' (March 11, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportVERONA, N.Y. — Waverly senior Daltton Davis was honored by the New York State High School Football Coaches Association with the prestigious "12th Man Award" during its 26th annual coaches clinic at Turning Stone Casino.
The award is given to a player who has faced and overcome substantial adversity in the past year.
Davis was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in February of 2025. After months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, he was declared cancer free and returned to the football team for his senior season.
"Daltton has been an inspiration and has provided a sense of hope for those also struggling with setbacks that life brings us," said longtime Waverly football coach Jason Miller.
"Our Valley community and beyond has provided a lot of support for Daltton and his family, and the Davis family is so grateful and appreciative.
"I'm very proud of Daltton, and on behalf of him and his family, the Waverly football program would like to sincerely thank the executive board of the NYSHSFCA for the important recognition and honor of this award," added Miller.
In his senior season, Davis had 38 receptions for 602 yards and three TDs, with game-deciding TDs against U-E and M-E.
