THE WEEK AHEAD: FIRST FULL WEEK OF SPRING SEASON THREATENED BY WEATHER, FIELD CONDITIONS (March 22, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The first full week of the 2026 spring season falls in March, which means its likely most of the games won't be player, but there are a pair of track meets and a flag football game that are likely sure bets.
Already this season, eight of the 11 events scheduled have been postponed.
There are 13 events on the docket this week, including four on Wednesday, and three on Thursday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (1)• Waverly tennis opens the 2026 boys season at Chenango Valley.
TUESDAY (2)• Athens baseball and softball is on the road at Troy. It is the season-opener for the Wildcat baseball team.
• Waverly softball opens its 2026 campaign at Chenango Valley.
WEDNESDAY (4)• Athens hosts a season-opening track & field quad meet, which includes Sayre.
• Tioga track & field opens the season in a quad meet at Groton.
THURSDAY (3)• Sayre baseball and softball are on the road against NTL Small School rival Williamson.
FRIDAY (2)• Waverly baseball opens the 2026 season at home against Norwich.
SATURDAY (1)• Sayre softball is on the road at Wellsboro.
