STAC BOYS TENNIS: WAVERLY SWEEPS DOUBLES MATCH TO EDGE CV, 4-3, IN SEASON-OPENER (March 23, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Waverly swept three doubles matches to pull out a 4-3 season-opening win over Chenango Valley in STAC boys tennis action here on a cold Monday afternoon.
Seniors Finn Williams and Tammo Bruns pulled out a hard-fought two-set win over CV's Hudson Tanner and Jack Stiles in the first doubles match.
The Waverly duo won the first set 7-6, thanks to a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker, and a 6-3 win in the second set.
Juniors Collin Wheeler and Trent VanDyke cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 sweep in the second doubles match, and senior Kamden Sorenson and sophomore Alvin Gao teamed to win a 6-0, 6-2 sweep in the third doubles match.
The Warriors won three of the four singles matches, but senior Nate McEwen won a three-set thriller over Kayden Stolker.
McEwen won the first set 6-2, but Stolker rallied to win the second set, 7-5. McEwen prevailed with a 6-4 win in the third set.
Waverly returns to action Wednesday at Seton Catholic.
