Valley Sports Report
ATHENS — Wellsboro won 10 events to record wins over Athens, Canton, and Sayre in a quad meet here Wednesday afternoon in NTL girls track & field action at Alumni Stadium.

Wellsboro tallied 119 points on the day, while Athens had 90, Canton 42, and Sayre 7.

"Tonight was a good starting point," said Athens coach Mike Bronson. "It got a little cold and windy as the meet went on, but our kids competed well.

"We now have a little bit better of an idea of where we are fitness wise," he noted. "Our veterans did a nice job — Abby Burgess had three really good races, Alissa Vough had really solid races in the 800 and 1600, Kaitlyn Leonard had a good night jumping, Elizabeth Denlinger had a good start in pole vault, Annika Lezak and Maleah Hadlock had some good throws and Lizzie Gorsline ran well in the 100 hurdles.

"I’m really happy with what I saw from some of our new kids, too," said Bronson. "Stella Unger ran a good leg on the 4-by-8 and then picked up second in the 3200, Charlotte Delamater did a good job in shot and disc, and Billi Wennie looked good in the 100 and 200.

"We still have a long season ahead of us and a lot of work to do, but we are off to a good start," he added.
