HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: TIOGA'S McKEE PLACES SECOND AT NATIONALS (March 29, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportMYRTLE BEACH — Tioga's two-time state champion Declan McKee came up just shy of his bid for a national title here Sunday morning, finishing second in the 106-pound Junior Division at the National High School Coaches Association Nationals.
McKee beat a state champion and two state place-finishers on his way to the finals, where he dropped a 7-5 decision to Virginia state champion Nolan Mather.
McKee used a seven-point move early in his opening-round match to forge an 11-3 major decision over Hawaii state champion Ryder Laughlin.
In the round-of-16, McKee pinned Karsten Kilgore of Wyoming 1:04.
In the quarterfinals, McKee scored an early takedown on the way to a 6-3 win over Lukas Mills-Travis of Bath-Haverling, who placed fifth at the New York State Division 2 championships.
In the semifinals, McKee scored a pair of first-period takedowns in a 7-4 win over Bryce Thomas of Moon Township, Pa. Thomas finished seventh at the PIAA, Class AAA championships.
