SECTION IV FLAG FOOTBALL: BELLES LEADS WAVERLY IN 40-0 ROUT OF CHENANGO FORKS (24 PHOTOS) (April 2, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Senior Brilynn Belles threw for three TDs, and ran for another score to lead Waverly to a 40-0 win over Chenango Forks here Thursday night in Section IV flag football action here Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.
"Not to be redundant but we are just proud of the kids and love to see them compete," said Waverly coach David Shaw. "It’s a good group for sure and it seems every game it’s someone new who shows up.
"We are also proud of the younger kids who continue to compete in practice every day and take full advantage of their opportunities.
"There is plenty of work to do we will get back to work tomorrow and look forward to the challenges Henninger will present Saturday," added Shaw.
After trading punts to start the game, Belles connected with sophomore Elli Cole on a 37-yard TD pass with 7:57 remaining in the first quarter. Belles connected with senior Lizzie Robinson on the conversion to make it 7-0.
After a short punt, Waverly put together a 50-yard drive, capped by a 1-yard TD run by senior Claire Clonch with 1:54 left in the first quarter. Belles and Robinson connected again on the conversion to extend the lead to 14-0.
Late in the second quarter, Waverly stopped Forks on a fourth-down for a turnover on downs, then drove inside the Blue Devil 10 before coming up short on a fourth-and-goal in the closing seconds.
The second half was all Waverly.
Belles started Waverly's second-half onslaught with a 9-yard TD pass with 4:58 remaining in the third quarter, then connected with sophomore Maci Wheeler on the conversion to make it 21-0.
Less than three minutes later, Bellis scored on an 11-yard scamper to make it 27-0 with 2:13 remaining in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Belles hit Olmsted on a 44-yard TD pass with 10:49 left in the game to extend the lead to 33-0.
Freshman Gianna Rylott capped the scoring with a 5-yard TD run with 8:30 left in the game. Eighth-grader Meeya Wheeler's run for conversion pushed the advantage to 40-0.
Belles completed 11 of 17 passes for 155 yards and three TDs. She also ran three times for 13 yards and one TD.
Olmsted led Waverly rushing attack with 103 yards on 13 carries, and also hauled in three receptions for 76 yards and one TD.
Maci Wheeler had 14 rushing yards on two carries, and Rylott had 13 yards and one TD on four carries.
Robinson led the Wolverines with six catches for 38 yards and one TD.
Junior Claire Clemens completed her only pass attempt for 7 yards, and ran for 12 yards on three carries.
Meeya Wheeler led Waverly with 10 flag pulls, one tackle-for-loss, and one pass deflection, while Clonch had eight pulls, Fisher had four pulls, Douglas added three pulls and one tackle-for-loss, and freshman Adriana Purvis chipped in with one tackle-for-loss.
Waverly, now 4-0, returns to action Saturday when it hosts Henninger at 11 a.m.
