STAC SOFTBALL: WAVERLY BATS GO WILD TO TAME PURPLE TORNADO (April 8, 2026)

NORWICH — Lecksie Douglas and Maddie Cron scored five runs apiece as Waverly routed Norwich, 23-3, in five innings in STAC softball action here Wednesday.

Cron was one of three players to collect four hits on the day as Waverly pounded out 19 of them, including six for extra bases. She went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, and drove in four runs behind Douglas, the Wolverines’ leadoff hitter. Douglas was 2-for-3 with three walks.

Tayla Gonzalez was 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBI, and Delaney Wheeler went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI to help fuel the Waverly offense.

Melanie Skovira, batting out of the No. 8 slot, joined in on the slugfest by going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Hannah Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs and four RBI; and Paige Bubniak was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Not to be left out, Ayla Wheeler, Kaiya Horton and Emma Williams chipped in with one run apiece.

Waverly sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning, bringing 10 across the plate.

Norwich giot two back in the home half of the first as Brianna and Ava-Rose Cirigliano walked and scored.

The Wolverines extended their lead to 18-2 in the second after sending 13 batters to the dish.

Douglas and Cron scored a run apiece in both the third and fourth innings, and Emma Williams would add a run in the fourth.

Ava Cirigliano picked up another run for the Purple Tornado in the bottom of the fifth.

"Our offense really clicked today," said Ccach Brent Doane. "We haven't put a complete game together yet, though, but it's still really early in the season. We just need to keep working and take one game at a time."

Waverly remained tied for second with Chenango Forks in the STAC Central at 2-1 (2-1 overall) while Norwich (0-3 in STAC East) slipped to 0-4 overall.
