STAC BASEBALL: PIPHER'S FIVE RBI LEADS WAVERLY TO 9-7 WIN OVER VESTAL (April 18, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
VESTAL — Sophomore Jack Pipher drove in five runs, including a key three-RBI double, to lead Waverly to a 9-7 win over Vestal here Saturday afternoon in STAC baseball action.

Vestal took the early lead, scoring on a wild pitch in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Pipher stroked a two-run single, and senior Ronin Ault added a run-scoring single to take a 3-1 lead. Ault later scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.

A pair of Waverly errors led to Vestal's first two runs in a three-run rally in the bottom of the third inning that tied the game at 4-4.

In the top of the fourth, senior Daltton Davis, sophomore Sammy Cheresnowsky, and senior Hogan Shaw worked consecutive two-out walks to load the bases, then scored on a three-run double by Pipher to make it 7-4.

The pitchers took over until the seventh inning when Waverly took advantage of four consecutive base on balls, and a hit batsman to plate two runs and extend the lead to 9-4.

In the home half of the seventh, the Bears took advantage of two walks and an error to load the bases. A two-out double cleared the bases and closed the gap to 9-7, but Pipher recorded the final out to end the game.

Pipher doubled and singled, scored one run, and had five RBI, while Ault singled, scored one run, and stole two bases, and junior Justin Koenig singled and scored to account for the Wolverines' four hits.

Hogan Shaw and Davis each scored two runs in the win, while Cheresnowsky scored one run, and Davis and freshman Axel Murray each had one RBI.

Senior Porter Daddona started for the Wolverines, allowing four runs — one earned — on three hits in three innings. He fanned three and walked two.

Ault earned the win in relief, with three innings of scoreless relief. He struck out one, walked one, and allowed two hits.

Pipher allowed three runs — all unearned — on one hit and two walks in one inning of relief.

In all, Waverly allowed six unearned runs, thanks to four errors.

Waverly, now 6-0, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Chenango Valley in the first game of a three-game set.
