NTL BASEBALL: ATHENS FENDS OFF LATE RALLY IN 4-3 WIN OVER NP-MANSFIELD (April 18, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens build an early lead, then fended off a late rally in a 4-3 win over North Penn-Mansfield here Saturday afternoon in NTL Large School Division baseball action.
After four scoreless innings, juniors Brady Flynn and Duncan Thetga led off the fifth inning with back-to-back singles, and Flynn scored on a wild pitch to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
After a single by junior Kam Wheeler moved courtesy-runner freshman Easton Paul to third base, freshman Zeke Noble singled to make it 2-0.
Junior Connor Davidson capped the rally with a one-out RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the fifth inning, Flynn led off with a double, and scored on a two-out RBI single by Noble to make it 4-0.
The Tigers took advantage of a two-out error in the bottom of the sixth and closed the gap to 4-3.
Connor Davidson relieved with the bases load, and registered a strikeout to end the threat. He struck out the side in order in the seventh to preserve the win, and record the save.
Thetga earned the win, allowing three runs — all unearned — on two hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Flynn doubled and singled, and scored two runs, while Noble singled twice and had two RBI, and Wheeler singled twice and scored one run to pace Athens' eight-hit attack.
Davidson singled and drove in one run in the win, and Thetga added a single.
Athens, now 8-2, returns to action Tuesday at Wellsboro.
