IAC SOFTBALL: SOUTHERN CAYUGA TOPS TIOGA, 5-2; SWEEPS SEASON SERIES (April 22, 2026)

Valley Sports Report
POPLAR RIDGE, N.Y. — Southern Cayuga scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a tie game on its way to a 5-2 win over Tioga, and a sweep of the season series here Wednesday afternoon in IAC softball action.

After Tioga left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, the Chiefs took advantage of a Tiger error to take a 1-0 lead.

Senior Lilly Mezzatesta tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the third inning, but the Tigers left the bases loaded again.

Tioga scored on a two-out error in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Southern Cayuga tied the game with a run in the fifth, then scored three unearned runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead.

Mezzatesta singled twice and drove in one run, while freshmen Bri Lounsbury and Irie Lynch each singled twice and scored one run, and freshman Kate Kithcart stroked a pair of singles in Tioga's nine-hit attack.

Eighth-grader Maddy Rogers added a single for the Tigers.

Kithcart was tagged with a tough-luck loss. She allowed five runs — one earned — on six hits, while striking out one and walking one.

Tioga, now 6-2, returns to action Friday at Notre Dame.
