NTL BASEBALL: GRAZUL'S HOMER GIVE ATHENS EARLY LEAD IN 5-2 WIN OVER WYALUSING (14 PHOTOS) (April 23, 2026)
Valley Sports ReportWYALUSING — Athens took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run by senior Nick Grazul, and never trailed in a 5-2 win over Wyalusing here Thursday afternoon in NTL Large School Division baseball action.
Junior Kam Wheeler doubled to lead off the game, and Grazul then yanked a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to make it 2-0.
Wyalusing scratched out a run in the home half of the fourth inning off Athens starter Brendan Cooke to close the gap to 2-1.
Junior Brady Flynn led off the top of the fifth inning with a single, then stole second base. After junior Duncan Thetga walked, both runners moved up on a passed ball.
Junior Connor Davidson then knocked home a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
Wyalusing answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 3-2.
In the top of the sixth, Grazul was hit by a pitch with one out, and Cooke followed with a walk.
After Flynn singled to load the bases, Thetga hit a hard groundball single to right field to plate two runs to make it 5-2.
Flynn was 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, and a run scored, and Grazul homered, scored two runs and drove in two runs to pace Athens' seven-hit attack.
Thetga singled and drove in two runs in the win, while Ty Owen doubled, Wheeler doubled and scored one run, Cooke scored one run, and Davidson drove in one run.
Cooke earned the win, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out seven and walking four in four innings of work.
Kade Rowe earned the save, allowing an unearned run on two hits, while striking out two and walking one in three innings of work.
Athens, now 9-2, returned to action Friday at Troy.
