WANCK BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD IN 1,600-METER RUN

WYALUSING — Senior Abby Burgess was a double-winner and placed in four events, and senior Lizzie Gorsline placed in three events to lead the Lady Wildcats to a third-place finish here Friday at the Lasagna Invitational, while junior Graham Wanck broke the school record in the 1,600-meter run.

"We had a great meet tonight," said Athens coach Mike Bronson. "The girls finished third as a team in a really competitive meet.

"Abby Burgess had a great night, and  Alissa Vough ran great races to PR in both the 1600 and 3200.  

"The boys team also had a strong meet," added Bronson. "Graham Wanck ran great in the 1600, then came back in the 3200 and ran another solid race."

LADY WILDCATS FINISH THIRD IN 25-TEAM FIELD
Burgess won the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.23 seconds, and Junior Kaitlyn Leonard was 15th in 28.65 seconds. She also won the 100-meter dash in 12.2 seconds

Burgess teamed with Leonard, and freshmen Ella Marhefka and Bilikula Wennie to place second in the 400-meter relay in a time of 51.71 seconds.

Burgess also teamed with freshman Eden Fedorchak, senior Lizzie Gorsline, and sophomore Marlene Roelle to place seventh in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:28.1.

Sophomore Alissa Vough placed second in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:58.24, and senior Ava Hughes placed sixth in 12:16.62.

Vough placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:30.92, while Hughes was 13th in 5:47.09, and freshman Stella Unger was 17th in 5:57.81.

Gorsline placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 50.49 seconds. She was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.14 seconds.

Senior Elizabeth Denlinger placed eighth in the pole vault at 8-feet, 6-inches, while sophomore Annika Lezak placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 96-feet, 3-inches., and senior Evelyn Panek was eighth in the high jump at 4-feet, 8-inches.

Sophomore Maleah Hadlock was 15th in the shot put with a heave of 28-feet, 5 1/2-inches.

Roelle was 17th in the 800-meter run in a tie of 2:39.83, and Unger was 19th in 2:40.9. Roelle also finished 17th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:07.31.

Senior Abby Wagner finished 17th in the discus with a throw of 74-feet, 7 1/2-inches.

Leonard was 17th in the triple jump with a mark of 30-feet, 11 1/2-inches.

ATHENS BOYS FINISH 13TH IN 28-TEAM FIELD
Graham Wanck placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run in a school-record time of 4:23.68, and junior Matt Rossettie was 18th in 4:49.63.

Graham Wanck placed seventh in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 9:43.3, while senior Parker Wack was 17th in 10:27.0, and junior Alex Arcesi was 18th in 10:45.18.

Wanck and Rossettie teamed with senior Alex Thompson and junior Lucas Persun to place fourth in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8:31.48.

Freshman Avery Gorsline, and juniors Ryan Cook, Brayden Westbrook, and Ryder Morley teamed to place sixth in the 400-meter relay in a time of 45.59 seconds.

Gorsline, Thompson, Westbrook and Cook teamed to finish sixth in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:37.65.

Senior Brenden Comstock placed seventh in the discus with a toss of 138-feet, 10-inches. He finished ninth in the shot put with a heave of 45-feet, 5-inches.

Freshman Gavin Ross tied for eighth in the high jump at 5-feet, 8-inches.

Senior Chase Ingram placed eighth in the pole vault at 11-feet. He was was 20th int he 110-meter hurdles in a time of 19.04 seconds.

Cook finished 12th in the 200-meter dash in 23.88 seconds, and Morley was 13th in 23.97 seconds.

Junior Zach Fisher finished 13th in the javelin with a throw of 129-feet, 6-inches.

Avery Gorsline finished 14th in the 400-meter dash in 54.85 seconds, and Morley was 20th in 56.75 seconds.

Rossettie finished 16th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:07.94, and Thompson was 18th in 2:08.61.

Athens returns to action Tuesday in its final dual meet of the season at Wellsboro.
